What Are We Worried About?

Silhouette of a person's head that reads "Your judging has no power over me unless I say it does."

In order to deconstruct nervousness, we have to ask what we’re nervous about. We’re worried that we’re being judged and judged poorly at that.

If someone is judging that I’m not good, why am I validating that crap by worrying about it? They don’t know me. If they were a good person they would be wishing me well for putting myself out there and taking a risk.

Someone’s judgment can’t make me bad. What makes me bad is that I think their judgment can make me bad. So, I have control over it.

Let’s reframe nervousness. It means that you care. If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t be nervous; you’d be indifferent. Being worried that things might not turn out well only happens with things we care about.
