We tend to value people who behave similarly to us—look at your friends. Does that mean we devalue people who act differently? Sometimes.
Just because someone’s behavior is different doesn’t mean it’s bad; it’s just another path.
If we stop comparing the way other people do things to the way we do them we’d do less judging and be a lot easier to get along with.
This is core to diversity.
What if we appreciate the differences? They can demonstrate new perspectives, ones we hadn’t thought of. New ways of looking at and doing things can be fun and create unimagined options we might not have encountered if we were with people who thought just like we do.
