Instead of fully writing out your speech, use bullet points to capture the gist of what you want to say. Each short phrase should remind you of your points and then you can actually craft what you say WHILE you’re giving the speech.
By doing this, you’re delivering the presentation from your knowledge, not your notes. You’re having to figure out how to say it right here, right now, in front of everyone.
This makes what you say much more immediate and will improve your connection with the audience. They will feel you’re creating it just for them—and you are.
There may be little stumbles along the way as you figure out how to say it but, in a way, that gives the audience a chance to watch you think. (And they will like it.) It makes you seem unpredictable and that is dangerous, which compels their attention. It’s also vulnerable but it sends a message that you are doing it exclusively for them; and that says you value them. Plus, it puts you fully in the present.
